Birmingham is a city and urban area in the West Midlands, England. It is the largest of England’s center cities and is broadly considered to be the United Kingdom’s second city. The city of Birmingham has a population of 1,001,200. People from Birmingham are known as ‘Brummies’ a term which has been derived form the city’s nick name of Brum.
The weather in Birmingham is quite moderate with average maximum temperatures in summer (July) around 20C and in winter (January) is around 4.5C. The weather in Birmingham is hardly extreme and the winters have become milder since 1990s as the snowfalls have become less frequent.
There are many museums located all over Birmingham city centre and outside the city centre limits preserved from the rich industrial history of Birmingham. Some of these Museums & Art Gallery are Chamberlain Square. Its famous show of artwork includes a leading collection by Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the largest collection of work by Edward Burne-Jones in the world.
Birmingham is also very famous for the parks as there are over 8000 acres of open spaces of parkland. One of the largest parks in Birmingham which covers 2400 acres is Sutton Park. This park is the largest urban nature preserve in Europe. The other major park in the city is Cannon Hill Park which has a timber-framed house within, a model of the Elan Valley reservoirs and two lakes. Birmingham also has a variety of on non-Christian religions in the city. It also has a Central Mosque, which was constructed for the Muslim community of the city.
The transport is also very convenient as there are a number of major roads served by Birmingham. The city is also served by Birmingham International Airport. It is the fifth busiest airport in the UK and handles a million of passengers. There is also local public transport which is by bus, local train and tram.
There are many famous food brands from Birmingham include Typhoo tea, Birds custard, Blue Bird Toffee, Bournville cocoa, Cadbury chocolate etc. There are many fine Victorians pubs and bars which can still be found in Birmingham. The oldest inn in Birmingham is the Old Crown in Deritend. The Anchor Inn is also nearby. For more modern night out, the city has excess of nightclubs and bars. The Taxi Service in Birmingham is fantastic and waiting time is minimal. The most famous street for a night out is Broad Street which also has a cinema and many restaurants on it.
Birmingham is a complete tourist centre with many restaurants, acting agencies, bars, parks, museums, places for night outs, religious places and also a flexible transportation which makes the tourists enjoy.
